Conversion since the 2024 reform
Since 1 February 2024 a milder standard applies: two daily units correspond to one day of default imprisonment. The duration of the default sentence has thus been halved compared with the previous law.
Ways to avoid it
The default sentence can often be avoided – through instalment payments, deferral or community service („work instead of prison“). Even after a summons to begin the sentence, options frequently remain.
