If the public prosecutor discontinues a case, that is not always the final word. At the same time, victims of violent crime have their own claims to compensation.

Procedure to compel charges (§ 172 StPO)

Against a discontinuation, injured parties may first lodge a complaint with the senior public prosecutor (deadline: two weeks). If this is unsuccessful, an application for a court decision before the higher regional court is possible within one month; representation by a lawyer is mandatory here. We assess the prospects and conduct the procedure for you.

Victim compensation (social compensation law)

Victims of violent crime may receive benefits under the social compensation law, which since 2024 is governed by SGB XIV (formerly the Victims Compensation Act). We support you in filing the application and enforcing your claims.
